September 30, 2008 Gregory M. Hurst has accepted the position of workforce development executive with the Detroit Area Council, effective October 1, 2008. Greg’s duties will include support for existing Exploring partnerships, as well as developing new Exploring programs. He will report to Alan Parks. Greg, a graduate of California State University – Los Angeles, obtained his Bachelors of Arts in Psychology with an emphasis on human development. Greg’s previous work experiences include Planned Giving Specialist in training and Specialized Foster Care Case Manager with Judson Center. He and his wife Angela reside in Detroit and have two children. Please join me in extending a warm welcome to Greg as he assumes his new responsibilities here in Detroit. September 2, 2008 Joe Kulwicki has accepted the position of district executive with the Detroit Area Council effective September 1, 2008. He will join Elizabeth Chapple in serving the Three Rivers District. He will also serve as Camp Director at D-BAR-A in 2009. Joe, a graduate of Oakland University, obtained his Bachelors of Arts in Communications. He is an Eagle Scout and received his Vigil honor with the Order of the Arrow. Joe enjoys camping, watching baseball and is a member Alpha Phi Omega. Joe served as an intern for two semesters; one in the Sunset District and the other assisting with the popcorn sale. His most recent position was Summer Camp Director at D-Bar-A Scout Ranch. He also served as Program Director at D-Bar-A Scout Ranch. Please join me in extending a warm welcome to Joe as he assumes his new responsibilities here in Detroit. August 21, 2008 It is with great pleasure I announce that Alan Parks has accepted the position of field director, effective September 1, 2008. Alan’s Scouting career began in 2003 as district executive in the Metro West District serving the west side of Detroit. While serving as district executive, Metro West achieved balanced growth in 2003 and 2004 and Chief Scout Executive’s Winner Circle. In 2005, he was promoted to senior district executive and assisted with the successful merger of the two city districts. Since February 2007, Alan has been serving successfully as district director in the Motor City District. During that time, all four service areas that Alan is responsible for has achieved Centennial Quality District. In this new role, Alan will give leadership to Motor City and Three Rivers Districts as well as the Learning for Life program. He will be the staff advisor to the Breakfast of Champions and assist on other council projects. Alan, a graduate of Central Michigan University, obtained his Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration. Alan has received his Wood Badge beads. Please join me in congratulating Alan on his new assignment.
