Pictured Rocks

 

This was the first area in our nation designated National Lakeshore and was authorized as such in 1966. Pictured Rocks beckons visitors to explore the 73,000 + acre park, with multicolored sandstones cliffs, beaches, sand dunes, waterfalls, inland lakes, wildlife and the forest of Lake Superior shoreline. At its widest point it is only five miles and hugs the Superior shoreline for more than 40 miles. This High Adventure Challenge, which will be physically, and mentally challenging to the participants.

The trek includes all food, transportation, 50 Miler patch and all National park fees. Hike the breathtaking rock faces high above Lake Superior in Michigan’s beautiful Upper Peninsula. Enjoy 50 miles of virgin forest, beautiful rock formations all while hiking in pristine beauty with Lake Superior at your side. This is part of the North Country trail system running from North Dakota to New York. The Pictured Rocks segment is the most famous.

Location: The Park is located between Munising and Grand Marais, Michigan on 42 miles of Lake Superior shoreline.

Duration: 7 days, (1 day in-camp training, 5 days on location, 1 day drive time)

Purpose: To give Scouts the experience of hiking days and camping nights in a setting comparable to the best that Scouting has to offer.

Who is eligible? Venture Scouts/Senior Scouts or any First class Scout deemed fit by the Scoutmaster. Scouts must be fit enough to be self sufficient and able to hike up to 8 or 9 miles per day. The Scout will be carrying his own gear and food. Cole Canoe Base staff reserves the final word regarding anyone’s eligibility. This is a DAC coed program.
