Northern Tier utilizes Minnesota’s Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness and Canada’s adjacent Quetico Park. It is a unique north woods preserve and is considered the greatest wilderness canoeing and fishing area in the world. With more than a thousand shimmering lakes and streams, canoeists travel from all over the world to experience unspoiled beauty and solitude. It offers a rare chance to see nature at it's finest. Many come to fish, others come to experience nature without the sights and sounds of civilization.
Nearly 1,000 crews (about 10,000 Scouts and leaders) attend Northern
Tier each year. Paddle on all kinds of water: mostly smooth water (sometimes so still you'll swear you're skating on ice or skimming across glass), some fast water, a little whitewater, and the occasional backwater where the mighty moose graze and a playful otter plays.
Camp on an island and listen to the gentle lapping of waves as you fall asleep dreaming about the miles you've paddled that day. Or camp in the forest where pine marten prowl the branches and lurk in the shadows.
