Tired of the same old treks? Already been to Philmont? Longing for something more? Ready to put those hard earned skills to the test? This is your lucky day!Get in on the best kept secret in Scouting and show your pioneer spirit by joining the first Detroit Area Council contingent to Double H High Adventure base in Datil, New Mexico!Located in the heart of historic mining and outlaw country in the Galinas Mountains, and surrounded by the Cibola National Forest, Double H offers a program unlike any other. Prior to your expedition, the Double H staff will work with your crew to develop an itinerary with the perfect blend of challenge and fun.Within just a few hours of your arrival you will depart on a seven day trek through 100,000 acres of rugged, pristine wilderness in the company of a seasoned Wilderness Guide. With no established trails or backcountry campsites, your navigation skills and mastery of Leave No Trace camping will be truly put to the test. While in the backcountry, your guide will periodically lead your crew in team-building challenges to enrich the experience.Midway through your trek you will visit Martin Ranch, the only staffed camp, where you will resupply, visit the trading post, try your hand with muzzle loading rifles or 3-D archery, and enjoy a western dinner. Then it is back into the wilderness for another three days before you return to Base in time for a shower and lunch.Crews consist of at least seven and no more than twelve members, including at least two but no more than four adults. Youth must be least fourteen by January 1, 2009, or at least thirteen and have completed the eighth grade by the start of the trek.We plan to depart around June 20, 2009, and return around June 29th. Details on travel dates, side trips, and costs should be finalized within the next 60 days, and will be added to the High Adventure page on the DAC website as they become available.Start planning now for the experience of a lifetime! Space will be limited, as we will only be fielding two crews for our inaugural expedition. In the meantime, you learn more by exploring the Double H website.
