| D-bar-A Scout Ranch Weekend Activities & Amenities |
Campmasters Campmasters, the weekend camp directors, are at camp each weekend to: assist your unit with check in and out, provide your unit with a quality program and doing everything it takes to make your stay at camp enjoyable and successful. Here is someone to ask if, you need anything. Accessible Fishing Pier: (See Fishing:) Located on Trout Lake below Draper Cabin, the accessible fishing pier provides the opportunity to everyone. There is a drop off next to Draper Cabin that vehicles can use and the Accessible Hiking Trail leads right to the pier. View photos of the fishing pier. Accessible Nature Hiking Trail: (see Pedro Trail) The trail is covered with asphalt for access by all Scouts and Scouters to include those in wheelchairs. The entrance with drop off facilities is located next to Draper Cabin in the Trout Lake sub-camp. There is a tree identification book that can be downloaded for use on identify the trees along the trail by their leaves. Get a copy of the book and view photos of the trail.. The exciting and silent sport of Archery is available each weekend at D-bar-A. Archery is an excellent way to build self confidence while having fun, regardless of age. It is easily accessible, and success is developed early, making this a great program for Boy Scouts. A quality, qualified staff operate the archery area located in the Jack Lord Lonesome Pine Field Sports Complex. Boy Scouts, Explorers and their leaders interested in shooting will enjoy our B.S.A. National Standard .22 Caliber rifle range. The Range is open on Saturdays throughout the season. A staff of certified N.R.A. rifle instructors present a quality shooting program, providing fun through instruction and safety. Registrations required upon check-in. Enjoy testing your skills at the Jack Lord Lonesome Pine Field Sports Complex. There is a per unit fee with everything you needed is included. Cubs and Webelos may not participate. The Skeet Range is now open on many weekends. Fees are payable on site for the shot guns. Rifle Shooting Merit Badge/NRA Markmanship Because of the increase of instructors available,
we are able to offer a rifle shooting -merit badge/ NRA Marksmanship
program on Sundays. Climbing & Bouldering Program: The climbing tower offers new challenges to participants by increasing their strength and helping them set and achieve their goals. It helps them build and enhance their communication and leadership skills. Climbing also challenges participants to push themselves and become more aware of their limitations as an individual, encouraging their overall reliability on team leadership skills. The bouldering wall offers a unique and different experience to participants by challenging their climbing techniques and skills, all while staying safely close to the ground under the watchful eyes of spotters and avoiding the complexity of any climbing gear. It too builds and enhances their communication and leadership skills. Learn more about the Climbing Program or the Bouldering Program at D-bar-A Scout Ranch. The same excitement is available for Webelos and Cub Scout campers at the Lonesome Pine Range. Weather permitting, Cross Country Skiing is available to Scouts at D-bar-A, you must bring your own equipment. Also at D-bar-A weekends is the BB. Gun Range. Cub Scouts and Webelos will enjoy the thrill of BB. shooting under the supervision of the qualified Shooting Sports Staff. The range is open on Saturdays of week end programming. There is a per unit fee. This fee includes target cost Sign-up is required upon check-in. The Trout Lake range is for BB Guns. Wyckoff Lodge at D-bar-A is open for food service any weekend of the month Highly qualified ECO/CON staff lead guided nature walks and will present a seasonal view of ecology. There is no charge for this program. This experience will give all scouts a new perspective of camp, the forest and wildlife. Fishing: See Accessible Fishing Pier You may fish on any lake from the banks only – no fishing off bridges or from boats What a great way to see D-bar-A - riding in the hay. YELL and SCREAM and HAVE FUN (which is why we go to camp). Hayrides are approximately 45 minutes long and give you chance to see the camp and listen to nature. Hayrides start and stop at your campsite (unless you wish different) and accommodate approximately 25 people There is a fee per group which covers bumps, bounces, and all the itching and scratching afterwards. Time and availability are scheduled when you check in. Click here to learn more about the hayrides. Hiking: (see Pedro Trail see Accessible Hiking Trail) D-bar-A ranch prides itself on it's fine horse program. Horses are available each weekend, all day Saturday, weather permitting. A friendly and helpful Wrangler is on hand to provide a great ride through some of the most scenic country in the area. All riders must have a minimum inseam length of 24" (see standards). Each ride is limited to 12 riders. Registration is available only at check-in. Payment is Due at check-in. Pedro Trail: The Pedro Trail provides for up to 10 miles of hiking if all three loops are completed. Each trail is well marked and goes through many of the nature areas of the Scout Ranch. Learn more about the Pedro Trail Scouts can do a camp good turn. A free patch is available for 4 hours of work. See your campmaster for project availability and signup. The Trout Lake Showers Building located across from Frishkorn Cabin, will be open weekends for your convenience. Beaver Creek Shower House will also be open as needed. Enjoy camp more with a hot shower Both shower buildings host male and female facilities. Thomas D. Trainor Scouting Museum: The former administration building at D-bar-A was provided to the O-A to be converted into a 1,100 square foot museum. The interior includes display cases, track lighting, and a special feature display area. All the plumbing, wiring, and lighting was replaced with new material. The old wood fireplace was restored and replaced with a gas log unit and the basement has even be converted into storage. A new forced air furnace now heats the building. A state of the art security system has been added to protect the museums' collection. Learn more about the museum. Our fully stocked Trading Post is open Saturday during the day and on Sunday mornings of weekend camping. Stop by and pickup a souvenir or a snack.
