Hunter's Safety
   

The Hunter’s Safety Training Course is sponsored by The Michigan Department of Natural Resources and the Detroit Area Council, Boy Scouts of America

Conducted by Scout leaders who are certified Michigan DNR Hunter Safety Instructors and NRA Firearm Instructors.

The Hunter’s Safety Training is a program that teaching hunters to be safe, knowledgeable and responsible. By law, the course must be at least 10 hours in length, with most courses lasting 12 hours or longer. The course consists of subjects covering hunter responsibility and ethics, history of firearms, firearms basics, ammunition, basic gun safety, alcohol and drugs, bow-hunting, conservation and wildlife management, wildlife of Michigan, first aid, survival and boating safety for hunters.

By taking this course, hunters will:

  • Learn respect for firearms and safety measures to apply when handling firearms and equipment;

  • Develop target practice skills;

  • Receive a Michigan DNR card;

  • Receive an official Council Hunter’s Safety patch;

  • DO NOT BRING FIREARMS OR BOWS
