Eagle Scout Rank Application Change
The new printing of the Eagle Scout Rank Application, No. 58-728, has a notable change. Now, under Requirement 5, the name of the candidate’s Eagle project is required, as well as the grand total of hours devoted to it (from page 10 of the Eagle Scout Leadership Project Workbook). The new application will be required beginning May 1, 2008.
The information about Eagle projects will be entered along with other information from Eagle Scout rank applications, and will be stored on our database and accessed through PAS. Councils will be able to run reports at the district or council level. This new database of Eagle projects will also be available at area, region, and national levels.

New Boy Scout Rank Advancement Requirements
Effective January 1, 2008
ANNOUCEMENT
Troop Leaders: The National BSA Boy Scout Division has announced the following Boy Scout rank advancement requirement changes. The National Youth Protection Committee recommended additions to Boy Scout rank requirements that were approved and will become effective January 1, 2008. These changes will help us advance the importance of Youth Protection training beyond the initial Boy Scout joining requirements, and keep youth informed and actively engaged in understanding the key elements of personal safety and protection.
- Scouts currently working on a rank effected by the change are ‘grandfathered’ and not required to complete the new requirement.
- Scout Shops will have copies of the 2008 Boy Scout Requirements book and the revised ninth printing of the 11th edition of the Boy Scout Handbook in January.
- The changes will be on the National BSA website in January.
- Electronic copy of this announcement is available at www.dacbsa.org

| Internet Advancement |
Each Scouts
Advancement rank and merit badge that is listed on a Unit
Advancement Report is recorded in the DAC information database
is the official Advancement Record for that Scout. Prior
to October 2002 copies of reports were kept and after several
years put on microfiche. Now the Council is pleased to introduce the Internet Advancement is the latest online-processing tool from the
National Council Boy Scouts of America.
Internet Advancement allows units to enter youth advancements,
awards, and merit badge information in a timely and accurately manner. This will make it quicker to verify advancement records for
a Scout. Advancement information is important while a youth is
in the Scouting program. >>>Read More |

Community Partners Programs |
The Detroit Area Council Committee works with local
companies and organizations through it's Community Partners
Merit Badge Program to provide merit badge sessions for several
badges. These have included Electricity, Pulp & Paper,
Dentistry, Snow Sports and others.
If your company or organization is interested in working with
the Council Advancement Committee, learn more about the
Community Partners
Merit Badge Program.
Information regarding available sessions can be found on the
Merit Badge Sessions
page.
The Community Partners Program also involves organizations that
provide advancement opportunities for Cub Scouts, Webelos and Boy
Scouts other than merit badges. These activities could also include
sleepovers. What's the difference between these events and the "Other Events"
located elsewhere on this site? Community Partners work closely
with the Council Advancement Committee to assure that requirements
are up-to-date, counselors are trained, and the program meets the
requirements of BSA training programs. These other advancement
opportunities can be found on the
Community
Partnership Activities page.

Venturing Advancement Procedures - A Quick Reference |
Advancement
Record Keeping
Gold and Silver awards require the crew to submit an application to
your local council service center for Scout executive approval. The
applications are available in the Venturer/Ranger Handbook, Venturing
Leader Manual, or on the Internet at
www.scouting.org. It is not
necessary to send a copy of the application to the national office for
approval.
Bronze and Ranger awards do not require an application, only an
Advancement Record Form. Your council should be requiring these forms
every time a crew requests advancement.
Sea Scout Quartermaster Award applications must be approved by the
Scout executive and forwarded to the national Venturing Division.
Advancement Reviews
Gold and Silver awards require only a crew review. The crew
president, in conjunction with the crew Advisor, should then appoint a
review committee of four to six people including Venturers and adults.
Bronze and Ranger awards require only a review by the crew Advisor.
Eagle Boards of Review
The board should include at least one member who is familiar with the
Venturing program. Questions should be relevant to the young man's
program, crew leadership positions, and activities. These questions, as
well as other requirements, may vary from the traditional review board
questions and procedures. For example, Venturers are encouraged—but not
required—to wear the Venturing uniform.
