Merit Badges

Merit Badge Counselor Training will be held at the October and February Roundtables. Check out Northridge Training page, or calender for when the next training is offered.

Check the main advancement pages for their offerings as well as those from the Detroit Science Center, Cranbrook Institute, Detroit Edison, and others. Do not wait to sign up for those you may be interested in as these sessions fill quickly."

Eagle Scout Board Review  

District Approval of Eagle Leadership Project

When you have your project completely planned, you have presented it to and had it approved by your troop committee, and all signatures are in place, contact Steve Walsh to make an appointment to have your project reviewed at the district level. Eagle Scout Board of Review

When you have completed all requirements to become an Eagle Scout, your Eagle Scout application has been verified by the Council Headquarters, and all reference letters have been received back to your unit, contact Mr. Earl Moorhouse.


Effective immediately, all Eagle Scout candidate reference letters will be included in the materials that go to council headquarters upon the successful completion of the Eagle Board of Review.

Eagle Scout Reference Letter

It is the responsibility of the Eagle Scout candidate to download the Eagle Scout Candidate Reference Letter and get it out to his reference sources. Reference sources must be adults 18 years of age or older. All reference letters should be returned to your designated unit leader and remain unopened until presented at your board of review. Awards & Recognition

District Award of Merit | Silver Beaver Award |Other Awards & Recognitions

The District/Division Award of Merit is awarded by a District or Exploring Division to volunteer and professional adults for service to youth in the District or Division. Normally, the award is presented for service to youth in excess of five years. A person may receive more than one District/Division Award of Merit, although there are no provisions for the wearing of a device or emblem officially to denote the second or subsequent awards.

Candidates for this award must be nominated. Self-nomination disqualifies the candidate.

Silver Beaver Award

The Silver Beaver Award is presented upon action of a Council Executive Board or the Direct Service Council.  This award is for outstanding service to youth within the Council or for outstanding longtime service to youth by a registered Scouter residing within that Council. The average tenure for Silver Beaver candidates is ten years or longer. Career members of the Boy Scouts of America may receive this award upon concurrance of the Council Scout Executive and the Director of Operations at the National office, BSA.

Duty to Country Award

The Detroit Area Council “Duty to Country” Award has been established to honor those men and women who
received the Purple Heart as a result of wounds sustained while serving our country.
