Cub Scout Fast Start, Boy Scout Fast Start and Venturing Fast Start are available online and only takes 15 – 20 minutes! Boy Scout Fast Start is also available on videotape. Your unit may have a copy or it’s available from Council. Venture Fast Start is available as a 24-page document. |

A 90-minute introductory session that presents an overview of Scouting, including the organization’s mission, aims, and methods. It also provides new leaders and committee members with a look at the resources available to them through the Boy Scouts of America, and a clear understanding of Scouting’s expectations of its adult leadership. |

Scoutmaster and Assistant Scoutmaster Basic Leader Training: |

Following New Leader Essentials Training, this course is phase two of a new Scoutmaster’s or Assistant Scoutmaster’s introduction to the Boy Scouts of America and to the responsibilities, opportunities, and resources that will ensure a successful troop leadership experience. |
Position Specific Training for Cub Scout Leaders: |
|
Following New Leader Essentials Training, this course is phase two for all leaders in Cub Scouts. Each Cub Scout leader completes the specific course for his or her own position in the program. These courses are: Cubmaster and Assistants; Pack Committee Chairmen and Members; Tiger Cub Den Leaders; Cub Scout Den Leaders and Assistants; and Webelos Den Leaders and Assistants. These trainings include materials on pack organization, advancement, den and pack meeting program planning and your role within the pack. |
Venture Leader Specific Training: |

Following New Leader Essentials Training, this course is phase two for a Venture Leader. This training course is designed to introduce adult Venturing Crew leaders to the basic information needed to operate the Crew program. |
Introduction to Outdoor Skills: |
|
This course is intended for every adult leader in every Boy Scout Troop and is the required outdoor training for all Scoutmasters, Assistant Scoutmasters, and Varsity Coaches. It is designed to provide a working knowledge of the basic outdoor skills necessary to succeed as a Scoutmaster or Assistant Scoutmaster. Outdoor skills are critical to the success of the Scouting program, and the Outdoor Experience will provide leaders with the basic outdoor skills information needed to start a program right. |
BALOO: |

This one-day training course covers planning an overnighter, cooking, equipment, campfire planning, BSA camping policies, health and safety, program, first aid, sanitation, games, Cub Scout cooking, and more! Effective, April 2001 all adults giving leadership to a pack overnighter must complete Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation training to properly understand the importance of program intent, youth protection guidelines, health and safety, site selection, age-appropriate activities, and sufficient adult participation. |

Webelos Leader Outdoor Training: |

24 hours of exciting hands on training designed for the Webelos Leaders and Assistants in your pack. It will also benefit Cubmasters, Committee Members and parents of Webelos Scouts who want a better understanding of the Webelos program. Training covers the Forester, Geologist, Naturalist, Outdoorsman, and Readyman Activity badges, cooking, knot/ropes, wood tools, fire building, site selection, bedding/tents, weather and much more. |

Wood Badge has evolved into the core leadership skills course for the BSA. The new Wood Badge course focuses on strengthening every volunteer’s ability to work with and lead groups of youth and adults and is less focused on outdoor skills, which are more effectively addressed in other courses. This is the only advanced leadership training that is offered by the BSA. Wood Badge for the 21st Century is open to all Cub Scout, Boy Scout, and Venturing leaders. Must have completed Basic Leader Training. |

Powder Horn is a training opportunity designed to expose the Venturing or Boy Scout leaders to activities and resources necessary to operate a successful Venturing Ranger Award or Troop High Adventure program in several ways: to safely conduct outdoor activities of a fun and challenging nature, to provides an introduction to the resources necessary to successfully lead their Venturers and older Boy Scouts through a program of high adventure and to familiarizes the Advisor with the Ranger program so that he or she can help the Venturer to meet the requirements of the Ranger Award. |

All Leaders & Boy Scouts 16 and over are welcome to attend this Cold Weather Camping training. This optimum cold weather training will give the leader the skills & knowledge to take Scouts on that winter campout with confidence and to make the Scout's experience one they will enjoy for a lifetime. This training comes in two sessions: First weekend at D-Bar-A and second weekend at Cole Canoe Base, both sessions must be attended. |
Merit Badge Counselor Orientation: |

One way just about every adult can participate in the Boy Scout program is to serve as a merit badge counselor. Boys can adopt lifelong hobbies or choose career paths based on involvement in a merit badge. A one-evening course is required before you can begin to work with the Scouts on their merit badges. Provides overview of the merit badge program, your role as a counselor, and the standards for approving the Scout’s work. |

Health & Safety: |

The purpose of the Health and Safety Trainingis to prepare adult leaders to conduct Scouting activities in a safe and prudent manner. The policies and guidelines have been established because of the real need to protect members from known hazards that have been identified through eighty-plus years of experience. Limitations on certain activities should not be viewed as stumbling blocks; rather, policies and guidelines are best described as stepping-stones toward safe and enjoyable adventures. |

Hunter’s Safety |

The Hunter’s Safety Training is a program that teaching hunters to be safe, knowledgeable and responsible. By law, the course must be at least 10 hours in length, with most courses lasting 12 hours or longer. The course consists of subjects covering hunter responsibility and ethics, history of firearms, firearms basics, ammunition, basic gun safety, alcohol and drugs, bow-hunting, conservation and wildlife management, wildlife of Michigan, first aid, survival and boating safety for hunters. |
Den Chief Training: |

The Den Chief is a critical member of the Cub Scout leadership team. To be successful, he must realize how important his job really is. Den Chief Training is intended to build enthusiasm for the job, develop high morale, and teach the skills he will need to be successful. |
Chaplain Aide Training: |

This training will help the chaplain aide: Plan appropriate interfaith religious services during troop outings, Encourage troop members to strengthen their own relationships with God, Ensure that spiritual emphasis is included in troop activities, Help conduct an annual Scout-oriented religious observance, Present an overview of the religious emblems program at troop meetings, Help recognize troop members who receive their religious emblems. |

NYLT (National Youth Leadership Training) focuses on building both leadership skills and Scoutcraft skills. Scouts function in Troop, Patrol, and individual settings. Scouts who complete NYLT are prepared to meet the challenge of working together with other boy leaders and adult leaders to help make their troop the best it can be. |

The Venturing Leadership Skills Course (VLSC) is designed to help teach young adults the attitudes and skills that good leaders demonstrate. Practicing and mastering these skills will help enable Venturers to have positive leadership experiences. VLSC was specifically designed to be taught to all Venturers in the crew. VLSC is now a requirement for the Silver Award and the Advisor Award of Merit. |

Kodiak combines leadership development and service into a week-long or two-weekend high adventure training for Venturing age boys. During the Kodiak training, 5 leadership skills, called Commissions, will be taught. The intent is to teach through experience, instead of classroom lectures. |
