May 6, 2004 Annual District Dinner & Awards Program

On May 6, 2004, the Three Rivers District Held its annual Business/Recognition Dinner. In attendance were 175 volunteers, many of which were recognized for outstanding work to the District, to their Unit, or to the community. The meeting started with a great catered dinner. After dinner, the fun began. The first of many people to be honored was Jeff Lang Scoutmaster of Troop 1104. Jeff was honored as the Eugene S. Reynolds Scoutmaster of the Year. Congratulations Jeff!! Also honored was Troop 1131 with the John Dumas Memorial Camping Award.

Also honored were 3 Scouters who completed their Woodbadge ticket. Kevin Fox, Michael Fox, Jr., and Chuck Murray, were presented their Beads in a short but very meaningful ceremony. A lot of hard work to complete those tickets, but t is was worth it. Keep working those tickets.

For the 3rd year, each Unit had the opportunity to nominate a person for being the spark that keeps their unit moving. Although the list is long, The Three Rivers District would like to congratulate every one of you that received the 2004 “Sparky Award”. Keep up the good work and Thank You for what you do for your Unit.

The night would not be complete with out the presentation of The District Award of Merit. The presentation Ceremony was started with the announcement of Gene Smith of Troop 1131 will be presented The Silver Beaver award at the Council Recognition dinner on May 26th, 2004. The District Award of Merit is kept a secret in Three Rivers District until the awards are presented. Three Rivers had the opportunity to present 5 Award of Merits this year, with one of the recipients not being in attendance. The 5th person will be presented at a latter date.

Scouts & Government Day,  Dearborn City Hall

This half-day event, was a fully structured day with individual time for each scout, to get one on one time with selected City Officials. The Mayor, a Judge, and a Council member were on hand to speak to all the scouts before being split up to “run” the city. All requirements for Citizenship in the Community merit badge were covered.
