The Outdoor Opportunity Fund, a 501c3 non-profit fund, gains support from the Detroit Area Council Cub Scout Packs, Boy Scout Troops, Varsity Teams, Venturing Crews, Explorers, Trailblazers, and other organizations and people who believe that a disability should not prevent outdoor experiences from occurring.

Pack 273, Lakeshore District, has raised over $1000.. for the trail, of this, Jacob Hook and Douglas Wilber III raised almost $700.00.

The Nature Trail shelter is in use almost every week-end since it's completion. It is also used during the week. The shelter has been used by Learning for Life organizations, Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Venturing Crews, scouts with disabilities, Trail to Eagle and others.

There are a number of naming opportunities for the decks, bridges and walkways along the path. Check out these worthwhile naming opportunities.

We know that many units did not have a chance to participate in the walk last year and we hope to see you this year! We want you to have the opportunity to help, to work towards some of your advancement requirements (such as Hiking, Disability Awareness MB, etc), and to earn the Walk-a-Thon Patch.

If you can't make the next Walk-a-Thon what can your unit do to support this project?

  • Hold your own Walk-a-Thon or Bowl-a-Thon and for the project. If you need pledge sheets, you can call the Outdoor Opportunity Fund or download them below.
  • If you are camping or visiting D-bar-A, walk the Pedro Trail. Not only can you enjoy the hike, you can also earn the Pedro Trail award while raising funds for the memorial.
  • Follow the example of Troop 1443 from Lakeshore District. They took up a small collection and sent it in. If every unit in the council contributed $ 40.00, the funding would be complete.
  • Leaders can call (586) 228-1781 if they would like additional flyers or download them below.
