Council Accident & Sickness Insurance Plan
Beginning February 1, 2006, registered youth members and registered adult leaders in Detroit Area Council units will be covered by Council Accident & Sickness Insurance.  Units will no longer need to purchase unit accident insurance policies. This assistance to units is funded by the Family Friends of Scouting Campaign. A detailed information brochure and claim form will be sent to each unit in February.  Please read the Plan Highlights below including eligibility.

Plan Highlights: 

Eligibility:

• All registered youth and leaders of Detroit Area Council Cub Scout Packs, Boy Scout Troops, Varsity Teams, Venture Crews and Explorer Posts.
• New youth members and adult leaders added during the year are automatically covered until the renewal date.
• Non-Scouts, non-Scouters and guests who area being encouraged to become registered leaders or Scouts are automatically insured while in attendance at a scheduled activity.  Other guests are not covered.
• Learning For Life participants and leaders, other then Explorer Posts, are not included in the insurance plan and are not eligible.

Coverage:

• The Plan provides year-round coverage for injuries occurring anywhere in the world while:
• Participating in an official Scouting activity. 
• Traveling to and from official Scouting activities.
• Coverage is provided for sickness that begins while the insured member is:
• In attendance at an official overnight Scouting activity or other covered event operated and supervised by your Council. 
• Traveling to and from such an overnight or other covered event.

Claims:

• File all claims directly with Health Special Risk, Inc. (HSR)
• Claim forms are available for download at our website www.dacbsa.org  or by contacting HSR.
• The insurance policy number is PTP N00327402.  Use this number on when filing a claim or on inquiries at medical facilities.
• It is recommended to have a claim form and policy number on unit outings.
