Attention ALL Cub Scout Leaders!

At the Program Launch Roundtable, on Aug. 22nd, the Northridge District introduce its new volunteer recruitment campaign. This program is intended to help you recruit more people into your pack, and ultimately, help your pack become more stable for the future. The name of the program is "Every Parent, One Job."

The program focuses on having every parent do at least one job within the pack. Sounds tough? Of course it does, but it will not be as tough as you think. There are four steps to our plan. First, develop a system to is going to work for you. One idea maybe to keep a board listing all of the jobs in your pack, so everyone can see what is open. Second, ask everyone and inform them that every parent is expected to fill a role this year in the pack. Third, if parents still have not signed up yet, give them a call and ask them which position they would like to fill. And finally, if they do not return a phone call, just assign them to a position (probably not Cubmaster or Committee Chair).

The Northridge District expects all packs to adopt this program this fall.

Our goal is to get 100% of our parents to do at least job within the pack this year. If we only manage 75% in your unit, we're guessing that it nearly triple of what you have participating now. This program provides the flexibility for your unit to find a system that works for your pack with the positions that you need.

Below are support materials that was used at the Roundtable meeting. One file is a more in-depth explanation of the program, and the other is a listing of potential volunteer positions within a pack.

If you have any questions, please consult your unit commissioner, District Commissioner Debbie Freeman, or District Chairman, Joe Kozely.

WORLD RECORD HOLDING DAY CAMP!!!

On June 21st, 120 Cub Scouts, 30 Parents, and 30 Staff Members set a World Record at the Northridge District Day Camp at Clawson Park.  Through 8 hours of dodging thunderstorms, windy conditions, glue gun issues, and the temptation of eating the M&M’s, everyone participated to place 8,640 M&M’s on a copy of the famous Northridge District Patch to set the world record for the Largest M&M Mosaic.  The creation measured 12 square feet.  8,640 M&M’s bettered the previous mark by nearly 2000 M&M’s.

The World Record was not the only thing that the scouts participated in throughout the week.  The theme was a Sea Cruise.  Each day the scouts stopped at a different “Port of Call”, and enjoyed activities, such as, BB Guns and Archery each day, opportunities to dunk day camp staff in the dunk tank, compass basics, knot tying, tribal masks, neckerchief slides, among numerous other things.

Thank you to the following packs for attending:
Pack 1095, Pack 1307, Pack 1444, Pack 1587, Pack 1589, Pack 1067, Pack 1627, Pack 1631, Pack 1633, Pack 1634, Pack 1705, Pack 1720.

These packs are now the only packs in the Detroit Area Council who are part of a World Record.  Congratulations and our staff looks forward to seeing you and all of the other packs at the Only World Record Holding Day Camp, the Northridge District Day Camp.

Remember that everything is possible with scouting in the Northridge District!

THE DISTRICT NEEDS YOUR HELP

“You must give some time to your fellow men. Even if it’s a little thing, do something for others – something for which you get no pay but the privilege of doing it.”

- Albert Schweitzer

With this in mind, the Northridge District is looking for a few good volunteers. Well, actually we are looking for a lot. We are looking for individuals who would be interested in serving as a volunteer at the district level. If you have an interest in scouting, we have a spot for you. We are really looking for Unit Commissioners and a number of District Committee spots to be filled as quickly as possible. These positions are a great opportunity for individuals to learn more about scouting from a district level.

If you are interested, or may know someone who might be, and would like more information, please contact, Joe Kozely, H: (248) 244-8544, or Debbie Freeman 248-259-9545 or Katherine Land at the Dauch Scout Center 313-897-1965 xt 211.
